World Sparrow Day: 300 children draw the little brown visitor

Our annual World Sparrow Day programme with Ideal Academy saw competitions, posters in Hindi and Bhojpuri, and 300 young artists imagining a city where sparrows still live.

Every spring, on the occasion of World Sparrow Day (20 March), KRRISH and Tamanna School of Art invite schools around Kankarbagh to think about the house sparrow - a bird our grandparents took for granted and our children rarely see.

This year the programme was hosted with Ideal Academy. Children from six schools took part in a drawing and poster competition, wrote slogans in Hindi and Bhojpuri, and took home certificates and art material.

Our volunteers also spoke about what actually brings sparrows back: nesting holes in older walls, grain and water on terraces, and a little less pesticide. The winning posters will be displayed at our Kankarbagh centre through the year.
